Who Makes The Rules?
On a sunny day, our small boat left the ship, anchored off the Galápagos
Islands, and headed for a deserted island. We were reminded of the
rules: don’t feed the wildlife, or go too close to them; definitely
don’t try to touch them. Enjoy your visit!
David and I walked
along the shore, to a quiet spot and put down our towels. It was
peaceful. A moment later, we saw a large sea lion, swimming back and
forth in front of us. It slowly crept out of the water toward us.
So
many things went through my mind; I was terrified! We were alone. David
was not afraid! He was delighted, curious, almost honoured by the
visit. I whispered in the silence, “I’ll find the naturalist.” I ran,
turned around, and took a picture from afar!
About 15 minutes later I found the naturalist, “That’s never happened before. I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about.”
Shortly after that David could he seen strolling toward us.
He described what happened…
“He
sniffed my feet; we looked at each other. He came along beside me and
lay down for about 15 min and then went back in the water!”
The animals make the rules on this deserted island!
